The second largest city in the province, a centuries-old spa town, a picturesque Passer river city, a Mediterranean island in the heart of the Alps – the list of titles that Meran bears is long. And yet, the city, which is only a 20-minute drive from the Waldhof², and its surroundings have much more to offer. The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle
Nestled in the sunniest part of Meran lies one of Europe’s most stunning gardens: the botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. Spanning over 12 hectares, this botanical paradise boasts more than 80 distinct garden landscapes. Winding paths lead visitors past water features and through terraced gardens, guiding them to enchanting spots like the Sensory Garden, the Japanese Gardens, Cactus Hill and Succulent Hill. Inside the beautifully restored castle, the Touriseum’s captivating multimedia exhibition showcases the evolution of tourism in South Tyrol.
Archaeological Museum
Located in Bozen, just a 30-minute drive away, the Archaeological Museum is home to Ötzi, the world-famous glacier mummy. People come from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the 5,300-year-old Ice Man. Yet, the museum’s allure extends beyond Ötzi, offering a wealth of other fascinating exhibits worth exploring.

Foiana / Völlan
Völlan is a tranquil place, particularly the outskirts of the village, where the Waldhof² is located. Forests, meadows, hills and mountains create a scenic backdrop. And yet, it is not far from the hustle and bustle of the cities of Meran or Bozen. Völlan, in the municipality of Lana, lies 690 metres above sea level. With just 800 residents, it remains a small village with a lot of charm surrounded by greenery.
The valley station of the Vigiljoch cable car, offering access to extensive hiking and skiing areas, is only a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, in the same amount of time, you can reach the popular Lana Golf Club.
